There are few terms and bits of equipment that you need or need to know before beginning to create and mix up potions yourself...

A Silver Knife
Scales
Glass or Crystal Phials
Mortar and Phestle

Terminology
Brew: a liquid mixture made by steeping, soaking or boiling solid ingredients in water.
Concoction: simply a mixture of different ingredients.
Draft (Draught): one serving or portion of a potion. The word Draft means that the substance is taken from a cask rather then then a bottle that has had the lid on with the mixture in it.
Elixir: a sweetened, smelling solution that is used as medicine.
Philtre: a potionthat is created to enchantthe person who drinks the substance.
Poison: a posion that is made with intentions to hurt or kill the person that drinks it.
Tincture: a benign medicine that is perserved in alcohol
